Stay At Home

I have been wondering lately about whether or not Todd’s life would be easier if I were to stay at home.  We struggle with keeping our house clean, which sometimes creates a little bickering between the two of us( where is that darn flashlight?!?)  I will admit, I am a lot of the problem. I hate cleaning, so this falls on Todd’s shoulders.  Todd is the cleaner, he cooks on days he has off and I am at work, he helps take care of the animals, he fixes anything that is broken, he is still doing work on the house to get it completed (I swear, it will never end,) he sews when a button falls off or when pants are ripped, he does the grocery shopping when I’m too lazy to do it on the weekends that I have off and he is at work.  He does A LOT!

I was thinking that it may be easier on him if I were to take care of the house.  Make him a homemade breakfast in the morning, pack his lunch, and then have dinner on the table and ready for when he gets home.  Take care of all the animals throughout the day so that if he wants to just relax in the evenings, he can.  Also, I could see myself out there mowing the lawn and gardening, trying to make the house look nice.

As it is right now, when we get home, we both have lists of things we’d like to do.  A lot of it doesn’t get done because we have so much going on, or we are just too tired to do anything but plop our butts on the sofa and stare at the TV.  Awful.  Life isn’t meant to be like this.

I would also try to bring in a couple streams of income with the businesses and possibly a part time job.   It’s time for me to step it up a bit.  I’m not a stay at home wife right now, but this weekend, I am going to TRY to be one.  Wake up with him in the morning, get a little bit of cleaning done, some organizing, decide what we’re having for dinner, get some laundry done, maybe some grocery shopping.  I am exhausted just thinking about it.  I enjoy my “lazy weekends” of staying in my PJ’s and doing absolutely nothing that requires me to think.

I think the main thing would be to have a schedule and stick with it to be able to get everything I want to get done – done.  We’ll see how it goes.

  1. I'll be praying for you Meg. I agree that it would bless Todd if you were to do those is your roll as wife, afterall :0) Of course, there is nothing wrong with hubby pitching in...but it should not be his primary roll. Good for you! I see such growth in you!

  2. I don't believe you should keep everything in order just for his sake. How about both of you keeping things in order since you both work? Do it for the sake of both of you. If you put things back where they belong, there will not be a mess or lost And, don't come look at my house because I don't often do as I say. It sounds like that a little organization, cleaning as you go during the week, and then putting things back in their place would leave you with your sleeping in on weekends still intact. You could set aside 30 min each afternoon after work for a little cleaning or straightening. That way you each can pitch in and the job won't so hard. Of course, if he is working on the house repairs in the evening, I don't think he should have to clean house--maybe just not mess it up.
